“I still think that the revolution is to make the world safe for poetry, meandering, for the frail and vulnerable, the rare and obscure, the impractical and local and small.”
- Rebecca Solnit, A Field Guide to Getting Lost

Poetics of the Landscape presents a constellation of works that observe and re-envision the landscape.  Through the expansion and contraction of image, data, material, and perspective each artists articulates their own process of engaging with the idea of place, locale, and landscape. Using a variety of strategies, from photography to weaving, mark making to data visualization, installation, and projection each work in the exhibition offers a unique rumination on how we engage, enact, imagine, represent, and visualize the landscape.

Heather MacKenzie is an artist, writer, and educator currently living in Richmond, Virginia, as the Fountainhead Fellow in Craft at Virginia Commonwealth University. For the academic year of 2014-15, Heather was a Fulbright Fellow in Paris, France, where she produced a solo installation as artist-in-residence at l’École des Arts Décoratifs. Sophia Hamann is a visual artist based in Braunschweig, Germany. Fragile ceramics, sculptural concepts and painting belong together with photography to realize single works based on finely differentiated observations and an active view through her eyes and her camera. Her works invite for further contemplation as they often just arise in progress. Beside the concentrated images generated in the photo laboratory, the process itself is always essential and an important part of her work. Sophia Hamann studies Fine Arts in the class of Walter Dahn at the University of Arts in Braunschweig.
