Biography

Qualeasha Wood (b. 1996, Long Branch, NJ) holds a BFA in printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI. Her work centers and uplifts black women using weaving and digital collages to unpack the often tense and complicated relationship between black femme bodies and the world surrounding them. Her digital transfer tapestries are an ongoing inquiry into Blackness, queerness, and the past, present, and future narratives associated with those experiences. By combining meditative tableau’s of self-portraiture with Catholic iconography, Wood cultivates a rich tête-à-tête around figuration of the Black femme body. Recent solo exhibitions include Qualeasha Wood, Gluon Gallery, Milwaukee, WI and Just For Me*, Benson Gallery, Rhode Island School of Design Providence, RI. Group exhibitions include A Manifest of Ipseities, 333 Midland, Detroit, MI; A Complete Change of Form Into a More Beautiful or Spiritual State, Cooper Cole, Toronto, Canada; New Contemporaries, Gelman Gallery, Providence RI; END, New Image Art Gallery, West Hollywood, CA; and The Salon At The Wing, The Wing Boston, Boston, MA. Wood holds a BFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI, and is a current MFA Candidate at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Detroit, MI.
