Gaa Gallery Provincetown

Gaa Gallery is pleased to present Summer Escape, a group exhibition curated by Gavin Kennedy. Summer Escape will feature works by Juan Arango Palacios, Corydon Cowansage, Mark Joshua Epstein, Koak, Laurens Legiers, Amy Lincoln, Lauren Luloff, Zoe McGuire, Calli Moore, Erika Ranee, Pacifico Silano, Krzysztof Strzelecki, Richard Tinkler, Lumin Wakoa, Summer Wheat, and Letha Wilson.

Summer Escape explores the role that art can play in helping us reflect, cope, and heal in troubled times.

Bridging internal (abstraction) and external (representation) ideas of escapism, the works in this show reimagine nature and place – ideally, to inspire us and help us imagine, and strive for, a brighter world.

In many ways the show concept, and the works themselves, reflect the energy and spirit of Provincetown, itself a magical refuge at the end of the world that is eternally optimistic and feels miles away from the perils of today. For the uninitiated, Provincetown is a historical arts colony that has been an inspiring touchstone for artists, writers, and makers for generations due to its sense of community, artistic legacy, and otherworldly landscape.

About the curator: Gavin Kennedy is a brand consultant, art collector, and arts patron based in Provincetown, MA. He is a long-standing member, and co-chair of the advisory board of ICA Boston and currently serves on the Marketing, and Exhibitions, and Collections Committees. He is also a Trustee of the Fine Arts Work Center, in Provincetown, MA, where he chairs the Advancement Committee. He is a proud art collector with an emphasis on figurative works by BIPOC, queer, and female emerging artists. Summer Escape is his first curated exhibition, and he is immensely honored to have had the opportunity to bring this show to life, feeling this show merges his two passions, championing emerging art and celebrating the spirit of Provincetown.
