Biography

Peter Hutchinson (b. 1930, London, England) lives and works in Provincetown, MA, where for over 55 years he has created work comprised of photographs, collage, and text that together yield new narrative space. Hutchinson is a pivotal figure in the Narrative Art and Land Art movements of the 1960s and 70s, and he is a master gardener and process photographer, creating work that explores the layered, interrelated qualities of nature and language. He is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. Hutchinson has exhibited his work extensively in the United States and abroad, including solo exhibitions at Freight and Volume Gallery in New York and Blancpain Art Contemporain in Geneva. His work can be found in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Basel, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, and The Museum of Modern Art in New York.
