NARRATIVE IN PHOTOGRAPHY

NAN GOLDIN, PATRICE APHRODITE HELMAR, PETER HUTCHINSON, SARAH LUCAS, WILL MCBRIDE, DUANE MICHALS, MARTIN PARR, BARRY STONE + GARRY WINOGRAND

November 22, 2019 - April 30, 2020
Gaa Gallery Provincetown

Gaa Gallery is pleased to present Narrative in Photography, a group exhibition featuring works from Nan Goldin, Patrice Aphrodite Helmar, Peter Hutchinson, Sarah Lucas, Will McBride, Duane Michals, Martin Parr, Barry Stone, and Garry Winogrand. Narrative in Photography will be on view through April 30, 2020.

Inherent to the medium of photography is storytelling, the visual account of connected events, a moment detailed and captured in time. Highlighting canonical artists of photography alongside emerging points of view Narrative in Photography explores images that illuminate the many ways in which a photograph can create, manipulate, document, and construct experiences and the ways in which a photograph endures and relays the narrative of time passed. From the text and image-driven work of Peter Hutchinson, Duane Michals, and Will McBride to the digitally altered work of Barry Stone and saturated images of Martin Parr to the unfiltered work of Nan Goldin, Patrice Aphrodite Helmar, and Sarah Lucas, Narrative in Photography presents a cosmos of images of historical and contemporary narrative functions in photography.
